In potentially good news for Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), Sony (NYSE: SNE) said it will delay the launch of PlayStation 4 (PS4) in China indefinitely.
Reuters said Thursday that various factors played into the decision by Sony's Computer Entertainment unit. The PS4 was slated for launch on January 11th and no new date has been set.
Sony is currently in licensing talks for 30 games in China and has moved to head-off censorship concerns.
News comes as Microsoft recently released Xbox One into China, the first gaming console allowed to be sold in over a decade.
Sony is also relying on its gaming unit to offset losses in other segments, such as its mobile devices unit.
When sales of the PS4 begin in China, buyers should expect to pay about 2,899 yuan (about $467), which is higher than prices paid in the U.S. and other markets. Sony will also sell its handheld Vita for 1,299 yuan.
