SodaStream (SODA) No. 1 Super Bowl Ad Banned, But Backup is a 'Killer'

Shares of SodaStream (Nasdaq: SODA) are volatile Monday after the company's preferred Super Bowl ad was not approved by CBS, perhaps because it was deemed "too provocative regarding the bottled-soda industry," according to the company. Still the home carbonated beverage leader said it will be airing a refreshed take on an ad that was banned recently in the UK (see below for banned UK ad).

SodaStream said it will be airing the ad towards the end of the San Fransisco 49ers/Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl game "after viewers have had their fill of the Big Soda ads."

The approved ad "presents a powerful message to viewers that SodaStream has arrived across the country, offering a better, smarter way to enjoy soda at home, without the hassle and hazards of the can and plastic bottles," according to the company.

The SodaStream Super Bowl ad has been mentioned by analysts as a noted catalyst for the stock. While the company won't get its first pick, the backup ad is still a 'bottled-soda killer.'

Shares of SodaStream last traded at $51.88, down 2.5%.
