Nokia (NYSE: NOK) may ask customers how many "megapixels" they want in their next handset. If customers say any number below 40, we suspect the fallout won't be pretty.

According to TheVerge on Wednesday, Nokia's next Lumia handset might get a PureView infusion. PureView is the high-resolution camera found on the 808 device. Along with boasting a 41-MP camera, the lens on PureView is also larger to let in more light.

The Lumia line runs on Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone platform.

Nokia recently reported unit sales of 4.4 million in its most recent quarter, topping many analysts' expectations. Despite the number, Lumia sales are a far cry from the tens of millions enjoyed by the likes of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Samsung. something Nokia might be planning to change with its next Lumia device.

Shares of Nokia are up 1.7 percent in morning trade.
