Panera Bread (Nasdaq: PNRA) is on watch Monday following news that it is asking for customers not to bring funs into shops.
CNBC notes today that Panera CEO Ron Shaich commented, The request is simply we recognize everyone's rights ... But we also recognize that we are building communities in our cafes and are where people come to catch a breath. We're simply respectfully requesting that people leave their guns at home ... It's that simple.
What if patrons decide to bring a weapon into a Panera location anyway? Shiach said, We're certainly not going to put our associates in the position of confronting someone carrying a gun ... We won't put our café management in the position of being law enforcement.
Other companies which have made similar requests include Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX), Chipotle (NYSE: CMG), and Brinker's (NYSE: EAT) Chili's restaurants.
