Other Smartphone Vendors are on Apple's (AAPL) Schedule Now
The following seems both equally humorous and scary.
According to Digitimes Tuesday, rival smartphone vendors to Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) -- like Samsung, LG, and HTC -- are timing the release of their new devices for the second-quarter of 2012...in an effort to not compete too directly with another iPhone launch from Apple.
Digitimes cites sources who've indicated that the OEMs "will unveil new models of smartphones at the 2012 Mobile World Congress to take place in Barcelona, Spain, during February 27-March 1 for launch in the second quarter of 2012."
Last quarter, sales of Apple's iPhone 4S helped propel the Cupertino, CA-based media and tech giant to a 23.9 percent global market share of smartphones, versus 23.5 percent for Samsung, and 12.6 percent at Nokia (NYSE: NOK).
Competitors expect a peak in iPhone 4S sales in the first quarter, which should die down in the second. The iPhone 5 could come in the fall of 2012.
Ahead of the bell, Apple is indicated for a higher open.
