Nokia (NYSE: NOK) may release more affordable mobile phones in China next quarter as it looks to steal more market share away from rivals.
According to the South China Morning Post, Nokia may release Lumia 520 and 720 smartphones -- which run Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phase 8 platform -- on China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL) wireless network in the second quarter.
In addition, Nokia should release its Asha 105 and 301 for first-time handset buyers. The 105 and 301 will have some features found on higher-end devices, which should make them an appealing choice.
The Post noted that the Lumia 720 and 520 will run €249 and €139, while the 301 and 105 will cost €65 and €15, respectively.
No word on whether the smartphones will also be available on China Unicom (NYSE: CHU) or China Telecom (NYSE: CHA). China Unicom currently carries the Lumia 920 device, as does China Mobile.
Shares of Nokia are indicated for a higher open Wednesday.
