Nokia (NYSE: NOK) shares are higher Tuesday as traders may still be responding to an announcement Monday the company is bringing a new device State side in coming weeks.
The Finnish mobile giant, citing "customer interest," said it is working to get the 808 PureView mobile phone to the U.S. soon. Nokia said it will distribute the PureView unlocked and unsubsidized through Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN).
Nokia will sell the PureView for $699; the device will work with a compatible AT&T (NYSE: T) or T-Mobile SIM card.
The most notable feature of the phone is its camera, which boasts 41-megapixel capability. To put that into perspective, the best from Motorola has just an 8-megapixel camera.
Pre-sales of the device will start later in the week, but shipment isn't set in stone yet.
The news follows a recent Facebook campaign by Nokia over the past few days. Amid Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) special event Monday, some put one and one together... but to no avail.
Nokia shares are up 0.8 percent just ahead of the closing bell.
