Just when you thought the best had come and gone...it hasn't.
According to reports out this afternoon, News Corp (Nasdaq: NWSA) is on the brink of signing Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management" sitcom to a 90-episode deal. Reasoning isn't because Rupert Murdoch can't help but tune into the show, which may or may not be aired on Thursday's at 9pm on News Corp's FX.
It is because ratings, with just three episodes of the season left, are ahead of guarantees worked into a contract. The next three episodes will need to be played over the coming weeks (three) in order for the final decision to be made.
The show is produced by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (NYSE: LGF) and Revolution Studios.
Bloomberg reports Thursday that "Anger Management" averages 3.4 million viewers per episode, with just 1.7 million, or half, in the target 18- to 49- year-old demographic. Which makes you wonder what the other demographic divisions are (Toddlers? Pensioners?).
Using a similar model, the show "Are We There Yet," which is on Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) TBS, also got a 90-episode deal.
Both News Corp and Lionsgate are lower Thursday afternoon.
