Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) is looking to enter the Indian marketplace by next year.
According to the Times of India, plans come following Singapore-based Hooq launching in the market recently.
Netflix also wanted to ensure technology infrastructure would be largely in place before debuting. As it stands, India is seeing rampant spread of 4G technology and is arguably a leading market for Internet user growth worldwide.
One spokesperson for Netflix commented, We have said we plan to be nearly global by the end of 2016. We have nothing else to share at this point.
Shares of Netflix are indicated lower Thursday morning.
