Mural funds run by investment firm Morgan Stanley (NYSE: FB) have a large stake in Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) stock, according to reports out this morning by Morningstar and the WSJ. The article lists 4 separate funds and notes a weighting of up to 7.77 percent.

Considering Facebook's subpar performance, the stock is likely to be a drag on the funds' performance. It is also worth noting that Morgan Stanley was the lead underwriter on the troubled Facebook IPO, and the firm has been accused of hanging retail investors out to dry.

The oversized mutual fund positions in Facebook might tell an entirely different story. Maybe Morgan Stanley really liked the stock.

Which one is more worrisome - the fact that they may have hung investors out to dry or that they liked Facebook stock- its really a tossup.
