Reports this morning are raising additional questions about the safety of energy drinks. The latest news focuses on 5-Hour Energy. According to reports in the New York Times, the Federal Government received 13 reports of deaths related to the caffeinated shot. Reports in October said Monster Beverage may have led to (Nasdaq: MNST) the death of 14 year old girl.
So far no direct links have been made between energy drinks and the deaths, but today's news will likely add members to the ranks of a growing army of health officials, politicians, and concerned citizens who have been calling for stiffer regulation on caffeine and energy drinks.
Shares of Monster are expected to open lower on Thursday morning.
