Microvision (MVIS) Jumps On Speculation Apple Could At Pico Projectors to iPhone 5

December 3, 2010 10:07 AM EST
Shares of Microvision Inc. (Nasdaq: MVIS) are jumping higher today after analysts at Ticonderoga said potential new features for Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 5 could be including mobile digital TV and miniature embedded pico projectors.

Microvision makes pico projectors.

The firm said, "During our meetings in Taipei, we are hearing more about adding new features to smartphones (and potentially tablets), including mobile digital TV and miniature embedded pico projectors. For example, ATSC-M/H (Advanced Television Systems Committee) Mobile Digital TV could increasingly become available in high-end smartphones in the future and we believe the next generation Apple (AAPL, $318.15, Buy) iPhone 5 represents an attractive candidate for this feature. Watching local TV stations on a smartphone could be an attractive option for some consumers. Additionally, an embedded pico projector allows users to project a slide presentation or video on a wall or other surface area in large size, which makes sense for the iPhone 5 in our view as Apple seeks to expand the features in the next generation iPhone. Not only do we believe both features could have appeal for smartphones such as the iPhone and other leading brands but also tablet devices such as the iPad could benefit from these expanded capabilities. Similar to developments by Apple, we believe the company can get creative and tie features such as these into Apple's digital ecosystem to provide consumers with even richer experience. It will be interesting to see what new features come with the iPhone 5. Maybe there is an angle that Apple could work into these potential new features as it relates to the iTunes store."

Shares of MVIS are up 16%.
