Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is slated to release its Xbox Music service on October 26th, right around the time Windows 8 will make its debut. The Company announced its new music service in June at E3 in Los Angeles.
According to TheVerge, Microsoft will offer its Zune Music Pass or users can listen for free with an ad-supported model. The service will be available across the Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, and Xbox 360 ecosystem.
But, Microsoft doesn't want to limit its service to just it's own products; apps for Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android and Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS will also be offered in the future, though not right off the bat.
Users will be able to store music and playlists on Microsoft's SkyDrive, a key component that Microsoft has been pushing in its new offerings. WIth most tech companies now making a broader push to have users store items on the cloud -- examples include Google Docs/Play/Music and Microsoft's Office 365 -- it comes as no surprise that this is the next effort that Microsoft is putting its weight behind.
Traders will keep an eye on Pandora (NYSE: P), which received some negative comments earlier, tied to a possible Apple Internet radio service.
Shares of Pandora are up about 0.5 percent while Microsoft is up 0.8 percent on the session.
