The other reason Nokia (NYSE: NOK) might be suffering today: Microsoft.
According to reports circulating around, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is sending out invitations for a "major announcement on June 18th." Given that its only four days off (less, now), it's hard to imagine those invitations haven't been moving around earlier.
Anyway, so what could it be? Could be Office for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad, or the Yammer acquisition mentioned earlier. Both are big, but invitation big? Windows 8 is all but out of the bag. Xbox is already streaming Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX).
TheNextWeb is mulling another idea: mobile.
Maybe it will be a mobile-focused conference going over tablets and Windows 8 RTM (Release to Manufacturers). Really, Microsoft introducing a Microsoft-branded tablet or mobile device would be rather huge.
Of course, Microsoft acquiring Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) would also be a big deal...maybe. Just be ready to sell if that announcement hits the wires.
Shares of Microsoft are up 0.8 percent in Thursday afternoon trading.
