If true, it would be a bold step for Microsoft and new CEO Satya Nadella, which paid $7.2 billion for Nokia's (NYSE: NOK) Devices & Services in a deal that closed in April.
In some ways the news would be an admission of defeat by Microsoft, as Windows phones have struggled to gain market share versus powerhouses iOS and Android. On the other hand, an android-powered phone would likely broaden Microsoft's reach among customers. Android has 81% of the smartphone market share.
