Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) may have won a browser battle against Mozilla (Firefox) and Google (Chrome).
AppleInsider noted the fine print that came along with Apple's announcement on Thursday that it would be holding an event on September 9th. While live streaming of an Apple event has been available for Safari (via OS X, iOS, or Apple TV), details of the even show that Windows 10 users will be able to view the event with the Microsoft Edge browser. This is due to Edge being able to support similar HTTP Live Streaming tech that's found in Apple apps using QuickTime and Safari.
While HLS has helped Apple to avoid using Flash, there's little support for the standard outside of the company's ecosystem. Until now, it seems.
Given that Apple events are usually filled with a lot of anticipation (could an Apple Car be announced?!?), this is a win for Microsoft. It might be a small win, but a win nonetheless.
Shares of Microsoft are negative in early trading Friday.
