Mead Johnson Nutrition (NYSE: MJN) shares are flattening out, but still lower on the session, following reports one of its most popular baby formulas might have a prohibited ingredient in it.

According to Caijing.com.cn, a Chinese-language news site, Mead Johnson's baby formula for 0 - 6 months may have contained Vanillin, a prohibited additive. The discovery was made by a quality inspection group in south China's Hunan Province.

Batches made on October 22nd, 2011, and April 18th, 2012, were found to contain the banned additive.

China's National Food Safety Standards for Uses of Food Additives says that no spices should be added in baby food for 0 - 6 months.

Shares of Mead Johnson are down 4 percent on the session Tuesday.
