Following reports out earlier this week that JPMorgan (NYSE: JPM) was hacked, the bank said it was looking into the issue and working closely with law enforcement in the process.
Reports Thursday come following an announcement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Wednesday, which said it said it was working with the United States Secret Service to determine the scope of recently reported cyber attacks against several American financial institutions.
JPMorgan said it was taking extra steps to enforce security today and would contact relevant parties when it learns more of what happened.
It is suggested that malware allowed hackers to delve deep into JPMorgan's computer system. The hackers used an employee's person computer to enter the bank's inner systems. Employees can typically work at home from time to time using virtual private networks, which the bank may have had customized for its own use.
Hackers can come from all over, including China and Russia, though it wasn't made clear whether governments were involved in the latest breech.
Shares of JPMorgan are down 1 percent Thursday.
