Is the Next Apple (AAPL) iPad Going to Make an Early Debut?

Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is looking stronger pre-market Friday amid a rather unusual bit of news floating around.

According to Digitimes, citing Chinese-language Apple Daily, Apple might release an upgraded 9.7-inch iPad over the summer. The news comes as Apple's new iPad is just a few months old, with the next refresh not being expected until spring 2013 at the earliest.

Even Digitimes disputes the claims, but makes one important note: PC OEMs might scramble to create another viable rival for the next iPad. This might cause a few bottlenecks in the production process of other consumer electronics goods.

One of the biggest features of the next iPad will be utilization of indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panel technology. IGZO will allow for a slimmer profile of the iPad while still providing strong battery life, with Wikipedia chiming in: "Its advantage over zinc oxide is that it can be deposited as a uniform amorphous phase while retaining the high carrier mobility common to oxide semiconductors." Obviously.

Shares of Apple are up about 0.7 percent in early trading.
