Research In Motion Ltd. (Nasdaq: RIMM) shares are lower Monday, as reality continues to rear its head.
HTC reported third-quarter results earlier, with shipments increasing 93 percent to 13.2 million units.
The number moves HTC into fourth spot as the largest smartphone vendor, pushing RIM down a notch. HTC sold 1.4 million units more than RIM in the quarter, research firm Canalys has said.
By comparison, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) shipped 17.07 million, while Nokia (NYSE: NOK) moved 16.8 million.
One Canalys analyst said that Nokia is most vulnerable at this point to HTC, as it continues to phase out Symbian based smartphones and phase in Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone.
Further, HTC is planning to open a new factory next year, expanding production to 40 million annually.
Shares of RIM are 3.4 percent lower on Monday's session. Notably, Apple is eschewing the broader market movement, and trading 0.5 percent better.
