Late last week, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) beat rival Samsung in a landmark patent case, causing Samsung to pay upwards of $1 billion in fines and fees, and losing import rights to the U.S. on several of its devices. The verdict boosted Apple and called into question Samsung's continued market dominance.
Just don't tell that to HTC.
According to Digitimes, HTC Chair Cher Wang doesn't expect to back down from pending litigation with Apple. HTC devices utilize Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system just the same as Samsung and Wang noted that the Company has "great skills in innovation and has the confidence to face legal lawsuits with Apple." Just because Samsung lost, notes Wang, doesn't mean the entire Android ecosystem is going up in smoke.
Earlier in the summer, HTC reported weaker than expected Q2 results, as competition from Samsung and Apple in the smartphone market became more fierce.
Things aren't looking like they may improve, either. In June, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) said it wouldn't give access to Windows Phone 8, citing lack of sales and little experience in the tablet market. Thus, HTC will be saddled with relying on Android for future gains or have to partner up with someone like Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) if it wants to diversify its offerings.
Shares of HTC ended 2 percent higher on the Taiwan Exchange Wednesday.
