Data shows 87.5 million units shipped in the second-quarter, which amounts to the seventh-straight quarter of zero to single-digit growth. In the U.S., shipments were down about 0.1 percent.
At the top of the charts was Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), with a 14.9 percent share worldwide, and 25 percent share in the U.S.
Second globally was Lenovo, at 14.7 percent. For the U.S., Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) came in second at 21.7 percent.
Apple was third in the U.S with a 12 percent market share.
Gartner also noted that Ultrabooks "could potentially change the market, but haven't yet."
Shares of H-P, Dell, and Apple are up slightly in after-hours trading.
