Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone may see stronger sales moving forward.
According to Digitimes Thursday, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) may face potential market share loss as sales of its new iPhone 4S are expected to be disappointing. Digitimes, citing industry sources, has said the iPhone 4S lacks some specifications that other mainstream devices -- such as those from HTC, Samsung Electronics and Nokia (NYSEL NOK) -- carry.
Specifics mentioned by Digitimes include the same size screen, download speeds of just 14.4 Mbps for HSPA+, and the fact that it doesn't support LTE and NFC technologies. The iPhone 4S does have a more powerful processor, better camera, improved video functionality, and a new voice-controlled assistant in 'Siri.'
But, Samsung, HTC, Motorola (NYSE: MMI), and others have rolled out models supporting LTE, NFC, and 3-D standards.
Android is currently carried on a mess of devices across the industry, while Microsoft recently inked a deal with Nokia (NYSE: NOK), and is also on several other devices globally. Many are anticipating Microsoft's Windows 8 OS, which is expected to provide a better touch-specific interface.
Apple shares are down slightly ahead of the bell Thursday.
