General Motors (NYSE: GM) has made a lot of recalls lately, but one item that won't make the list is rusting brake lines on pickups and SUVs.
Bloomberg reported Tuesday that GM considers corroded brake lines as part of normal wear-and-tear. Some 1.8 million pickups and SUVs could be experiencing the same issue.
Owners have said that the steel braks lines are so rust prone that they'll fail without notice, spilling fluid in the process. Lost fluid could lead to a sudden and sometimes catastrophic drop in braking power.
One spokesperson for GM noted that owners' manuals urge for brake lines to be inspected every one or two years.
GM's U.S. recalls have totaled 26 million in 2014. Shares are lower in early trading.
