December 4, 2014 11:22 AM EST

Athenahealth (NASDAQ: ATHN) CEO Jonathan Bush spoke with FOX Business Network's (FBN) Sandra Smith about the Affordable Care Act saying, "who cares, it's already done, we've already got it" and "the good news is it's behind us." Bush went on to say, "the future of medicine is shopping. It really is. Doctors are learning to shop" and that "healthcare providers can actually make money by shopping effectively."

Excerpts from the interview are below:

On his view of the Affordable Care Act:

"Who cares, it's already done, we've already got it... the good news is it's behind us and we're seeing in this recent poll data and we're seeing it in the athenaNet database, we've got 56 million patients in athenaNet. We can see these trends as patients move to higher and higher deductible products."

On how the Affordable Care Act is affecting his company:

"Well we work for the doctor so our network is the network doctors - you know, 10 percent of the doctors in the country do all their medical records in the cloud using athenaNet, in the secure athenaNet cloud and so people don't come in for appointments - they don't get revenue if they don't get revenue Athena doesn't get revenue, so we're helping doctors make themselves more accessible, doctors and health systems that we serve."

On the future of medicine in the United States:

"The future of medicine is shopping. It really is. Doctors are learning to shop...healthcare providers can actually make money by shopping effectively and saving money by reducing utilization of excess stuff. That's a new thing that was never true before in Medicare and now it's true and now consumers are shopping."
