Ford Motor (NYSE: F) recently recalled certain Escape SUV and Fusion midsize sedan models equipped with its 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine due to an overheating issue.
That hasn't waned consumer interest in the vehicles, Operating Chief Mark Fields said on Tuesday. Commenting to reporters during a Ford Fund event in Detroit, Fields noted that sales and perception of the Escape and Fusion "are doing well."
"But we understand that’s a very precious thing and we’re working very hard every day to deliver that quality," he concluded.
One of the biggest problems Ford has had of recent was with its MyFord touch screens. The difficulty in using the setup caused Consumer Reports to rank the Ford brand second-to-last in overall quality. J.D. Power's annual new-car quality survey put Ford at 27th place in 2012, down from 23rd in 2011, and fifth in 2010.
Another area of interest that Ford was to improve is with its fuel-saving transmissions.
Shares are down 0.3 percent early.
