Disney's (DIS) Pixar Bats 1.000 with New Release; 'Madagascar Mania' Fades

Proving once again that U.S. citizens think people with Scottish/U.K. accents are the best thing since hot dogs packaged in eights, Disney (NYSE: DIS) scored a win over the weekend from an unusual place: a female lead.
According to box office data from the weekend, Disney/Pixar's first film with a female lead character, "Brave," won the weekend with $66.7 million in ticket sales. Also of note, this is Pixar's 13th debut at number one, which, given it's only had 13 releases starting with 1995's "Toy Story," makes Pixar the world's most perfect film company.
Paramount Pictures' "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" was second at $20.2 million. Critics and moviegoers enjoyed the film, but thought it would've done better than the movie been retitled "Madagascar 3: European Bailout of Destiny," Ben Stiller's character re-voiced by Angela Merkel, Chris Rock's with Francois Hollande (though critics would've seen through that, expecting Sarkozy instead. In fact, Sarkozy should still do it, despite not being the president of France anymore), and David Schwinner's by Tim Geithner. Adventures would have Merkel's "Alex" overseeing the entire journey, approving and denying at a whim, while Geithner's "Melman" provides comic relief.
