Illustrating its precipitous fall from grace, PC maker Dell Inc. (Nasdaq: DELL) was removed from the S&P 100. It will be replaced by Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) stub AbbVie Inc. (NYSE: ABBV).

S&P said with a market capitalization below $18.5 billion it is no longer representative of the mega-cap market space.

The change will take place after the close of trading on Monday, December 31.
