Could IBM Buy Juniper (JNPR) in 2010? What About Cisco (CSCO) Buying EMC (EMC)?
Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) is seeing some interest this morning after technology research firm IDC, in its Top 10 Predictions for 2010, mentioned that IBM (NYSE: IBM) might surprise the market by getting back into the network hardware by acquiring Juniper Networks (Nasdaq: JNPR). Shares of JNPR are up 1.4% this morning.
Another merger prediction was that joint venture partners Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and EMC (NYSE: EMC) "may feel that their best chance to turn customer interest into commitment is by merging." Although they said for 2010, they believe that's premature. EMC is up 1% this morning.
Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) could continue to expand its software and services portfolio and target companies like CA (NYSE: CA), Compuware (Nasdaq: CPWR), BMC (NYSE: BMC) Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC), and Novell (Nasdaq: NOVL).
On Oracle (Nasaq: ORCL) the group said, "Regarding the Oracle/Sun portfolio, the company's competitive position would benefit by continuing to strengthen and expand, through acquisition, its IT management software portfolio (see the candidates in the Dell prediction above) and services capabilities."
