Despite some drawbacks, many users agree Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) virtual voice assistant, Siri, is a cool, useful feature.

At WWDC last week, Apple said Siri is under continuous refinement, with a better version expected to debut on iOS 6 as well as OS X Mountain Lion. Additionally, several notable auto makers, from Audi to BMW, are planning the integration of Siri into next-generation automobiles. Many of the autos will feature a button on the steering wheel to access Siri's features, letting driver distractions remain at a minimum.

And Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) isn't about to "sit around" and just "let that happen." Reports out of the WSJ on Tuesday suggest Google is aiming to develop its own Siri.

Last December, Google acquired Clever Sense, a developer of the recommendation app named Alfred. Others might remember Google's endeavor to allow users to make calls from Gmail for free, probably to map out millions of voice patterns, pitches, speeds, dialects, and so on.

Now there's speculation of a project codenamed "Majel" being worked on by the same Google unit sweating over Project Glass, Google's venture into a personal HUD.
