CNBC Viewers Vote Meredith Whitney as 'Power Player of 2008'
On Power Lunch, CNBC just announced results from its informal "Power Player of 2008" survey, a poll which prompted viewers to vote for their top market mover of '08.
With figures such as Tim Geithner, Jamie Dimon, Ben Bernanke and Hank Paulson (in that order) coming in at spots 5 through 2, the #1 pick surprised me, although many would say its expected as she has been dead on all year. That's right, Oppenheimer's Meredith Whitney.
The banking analyst received an overwhelming amount of votes, racking up 67% of all viewer picks. To add a little perspective, Bernanke, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, only received 11% of the popular vote.
Despite cutting estimates on the major Wall Street financial companies numerous times, Whitney remains bearish on the space and still sees more downside.
