Whether you do or don't like the band One Direction, there's a least one thing that's certain about them: They carry some social media clout.
According to the NY Post, citing recent research from Credit Suisse, a negative mention by one of the members of One Direction might be having a negative effect on SeaWorld (NYSE: SEAS).
The band's Harry Styles told fans at a July 9th concert to not go to SeaWorld if they liked dolphins. That clip was shared on Facebook's (Nasdaq: FB) Instagram by Game of Thrones
actress Maisie Williams, and it has since blown up given Williams' 1.4 million followers.
Credit Suisse noted that online mentions of SeaWorld have popped 400 percent to about 2.5 million since June. The firm also said that about 85 percent of the mentions were considered negative,
not something that would please SeaWorld executives.
Again, you can view the video clip on the NY Post site here. (Note: Volume on the video is rather loud.)
Shares of SeaWorld are flat in early trading Friday.
