Boeing (NYSE: BA) is facing even more bad news with its flagship 787 Dreamliner as two Japanese airlines are grounding the plane for safety following an emergency landing ealier in the day.
An All Nippon Airways 787 flight made the landing after pilots got a battery-fault warning and smelled smoke in the cockpit. ANA will ground the entire fleet for the first time, while Japan Airlines (JAL) is taking the measure as a safety precaution.
JAL experienced a battery fire last week with one of its 787's in Boston.
The 787 was three-years late on arrival and the first commercial aircraft with a composite plastic body and first Boeing airplane with lithium-ion batteries.
Bloomberg reports today that 129 passengers were evacuated when the ANA flight landed in Takamatsu airport, with only a wrist injury reported.
Ahead of the bell, Boeing is down over 4.5 percent.
