Biotech Investors Brace as Dems Set to Take Stage in First Debate (VRX) (IBB)
Biotech investors were on edge Tuesday ahead of tonight's first Democratic debate of the 2016 presidential campaign. Related concerns first surfaced in September after presidential candidate Hillary Clinton highlighted "price gouging" in specialty drugs. The attack led to steep losses in stocks like Valeant Pharma (NYSE: VRX) and general malaise throughout the space.
Since September panic has eased, and many names have stabilized, but with Clinton and others set to take the stage, investors were clearly on guard. This was made evident by declines in the NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (Nasdaq: IBB), which fell by just over 2%.
