Apple (AAPL) Running Special Promotion for Students; What Does it Mean?

June 18, 2012 12:02 PM EDT Send to a Friend
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is running a rare promotion for college students.

If students buy a Mac they'll receive $100 to spend on apps, books, music, movies and more. If they buy an iPad they'll get $50 to spend.

For investors, it's hard to gauge if the promotion could suggest that sales are a little flat this quarter, or if it just suggests they're trying to gain mind-share among students. With classes just getting out, the timing is a little suspect. However, while a nice promotion, this is far short from a fire-sale.
