Apple (AAPL) Employees are Livin' Large with Bigger Paychecks, Better Discounts

Aside from being able to wear awesome shirts, life as an Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) retail employee is getting better.

There's now free coffee in the break room...

Just kidding.

Employees may be looking at a 25 percent boost in pay, or even more if the store has performed well.

Dow Jones reported early Thursday, just like the rest of America, employees' biggest gripe was with wage levels. One person cited said the increase reflects Apple's position as a high-end retailer.

Another said a Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) shop opening nearby was poaching employees with the promise of promotions and higher wages.

Current market data shows employees being paid $9 to $15 per hour for retail sales, and up to $30 for "Genius" tech support staffers in certain markets.

Latest numbers have Apple with 36,000 full-time equivalent staff, double the 16,500 in 2009. Retail sales also unsurprisingly doubled to $14 billion last year.

But that's not the best part. In other employee-related news, employees will now be able to get $500 off of a Mac and $250 off the purchase of an iPad. The discounts come on top of a 25 percent discount employees already enjoy, but can't be applied to items like Mac minis or the Retina display MacBook Pro. In addition, the employees can only use the discount once every three years and must be working for Apple for 90 days.

So if you're looking for a part-time gig...look no further. The wondrous (and beneficial) world of Apple now awaits.

Shares are down 0.4 percent Thursday.
