Apple (AAPL) Pushes Past Two Competitors in Q4 Global Phone Shipments
New data from IDC Thursday suggests Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) moved past LG and ZTE for the number three spot on the list of global mobile phone vendors. Apple shipped 37 million mobile units in the fourth quarter, giving it an overall market share of 8.7 percent.
Leading the pack was Nokia (NYSE: NOK), which shipped 113.5 million units for a 26.6 percent market share. Samsung was second with 97.6 million units shipped and a 22.8 percent market share.
Notably, Nokia's market share fell 8.2 percent last quarter, while Samsung saw a 20.9 percent increase and Apple popped 128.4 percent.
These stats are based on overall shipments of mobile devices -- not just smartphones.
