Apple's (AAPL) Watch Wearable Seen as Largely A Flop...Unless You Own One

April 11, 2016 10:48 AM EDT

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) shares are trading higher amid recent negative sentiment surrounding its Watch wearable.

Re/code noted recent data from a Fluent survey, which found that most adults found the Watch to be a "flop." About 53 percent said they didn't consider the Watch to be a successful product.

In total, 2,578 U.S. adults participated in the survey.

Those that bought the watch are satisfied; around 77 percent of current owners consider the device a success and about 66 percent plan to upgrade to the next version.

Fluent also noted that owners use the Apple Watch for more than just telling time. About 80% of Apple Watch owners say that they use their watches for fitness tracking and notifications, 75% for listening to music, 66% for email and chat, and 61% for Apple Pay. Only 11% of Apple Watch owners say that fashion is their primary reason for owning one -- "convenience" (46%) and features (31%) are much more important factors, the firm said.

Shares of Apple are up around 1.5 percent today.
