Android (GOOG) Closes Gap with Apple's (AAPL) iOS in Global Market Share - StatCounter
Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android is continuing its run for global acceptance, nearing Apple's (Nasdaq: APPL) iOS for second-place in overall mobile OS usage.
Data from StatCounter today has Android moving from 17.92 percent to 18.93 percent of worldwide mobile OS market share. Apple's iOS saw a slight decline, extremely slight, moving from 20.04 to 20.03 percent. Android had just a 7.9 percent market share in July 2010, compared with 26.05 percent for iOS.
Nokia's (NYSE: NOK) Symbian OS is still hanging tough in the number one spot, but its share fell from 33.58 to 32.45 percent. The number is up from 32.04 percent in July 2010.
Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) BlackBerry OS clicked up a notch, from 12.15 to 12.48 percent. The number is down from 16.45 percent in the same period last year.
