One of Amazon's (Nasdaq: AMZN) key operating units is putting Tesla's (Nasdaq: TSLA) new residential/commercial batteries through its paces.
According to ZDNet, Amazon is utilizing Tesla's Power Pack battery system for its Amazon Web Services data center manager. AWS is worth about $5 billion to Amazon and runs a slew of popular websites and services.
AWS engineer James Hamilton noted that the Amazon unit was testing Tesla's batteries for about a year. Hamilton commented, "Batteries are important for both data center reliability and as enablers for the efficient application of renewable power ... They help bridge the gap between intermittent production, from sources like wind, and the data center's constant power demands."
Amid Thursday's announcement, Tesla is down 0.7 percent, but well off of earlier lows.
