Here's another great reason to buy Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) as a long-term investment.
According to a new survey by research firm Nielsen (Nasdaq: NLSN), kids ages 6 to 12 have selected Apple's iPad as the most desired product for the holiday shopping season. That means Apple has already gained a huge fan base it is likely to keep over the next generation, unless something terrible happens.
Now, the study might seem lopsided, because you might think that the iPad is only being pitted against Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) PlayBook or Amazon's (Nasdaq: AMZN) brand new Kindle Fire, which hasn't had the reach that the iPad has yet. But no, competition was way more fierce.
Other items on the list included an iPod Touch (which actually came in second!), iPhone (third!), Nintendo 3DS, Kinect for Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox 360, Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 3, a TV set (just any, apparently), and any non-Apple smartphone.
So, with Apple items getting the 1, 2, and 3 spots as most desired by the next generation.
Going a little bit older, to the 13-year-old and above group, and the iPad gets 24 percent of interest, with any computer in second place at 18 percent. Apple's iPhone only made it to seventh on that list.
Apple is slightly higher on Friday's trading session.
