'Major' Flaw Found in Apple's (AAPL) iOS Platform

February 24, 2014 9:19 AM EST
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is lower early Monday following reports over the weekend of a major security flaw in its iOS platform.

The issue would allow hackers to access an iPhone user's email and other communications. The hackers could read an iPhone's files simply by being on the same, open network.

The Economic Times said governments with access to wireless telecom data could do the same.

Apple iOS was found to mishandle secure socket layers in sessions. The company said the software failed to validate the authenticity of the connection. Hackers would be able to impersonate a secure website and simply monitor a users' activity on the device.

Updates are currently released for iPhone 4, iPad 2, and fifth-generation iPod touch devices. Mac OS X was also said to be experiencing similar issues, though no fix is out for that operating system yet.

Shares of Apple are down about 0.3 percent.
