China's Massive Investment Fund Discloses $9.63 Billion U.S. Portfolio (TCK, MS, BLK, V, more...)

China's massive government-owned investment fund, China Investment Corporation, issued its first ever quarterly report with the SEC showing its investment holdings in U.S. stocks. The investment fund showed a portfolio with $9.63 billion of U.S.-listed securities as of December 31, 2009.

The fund showed a number of investments in financial and resource companies and showed a diverse range of holdings in ETFs.

Some of the group's biggest holdings included:

  • Teck Resources Ltd (NYSE: TCK) 101,304,474 shares
  • Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) 59,890,576 shares
  • Blackrock Inc. (NYSE: BLK) 3,074,094 shares
  • Visa (NYSE: V) 4,045,455 shares
  • Vale PFD 12,000,000 shares
  • iShares S&P Global Materials (NYSE: MXI) 4,087,000 shares
  • Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) 4,129,901
  • iShares MSCI EAFE Index (NYSE: EFA) 3,750,000
  • Vale (Nasdaq: VALE) 6,896,562
  • iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index (NYSE: EEM) 4,500,000
  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) 1,450,000
  • SPDRs (NYSE: SPY) 1,250,000
  • PowerShares QQQ (Nasdaq: QQQQ) 3,000,000
  • Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) 9,000,000
  • Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) 2,518,000
  • iShares Russell 2000 Index (NYSE: IWM) 1,750,000
  • iShares S&P Global Energy (NYSE: IXC) 2,995,000
  • Industrial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLI) 3,500,000

The sovereign wealth fund also showed stakes in a number of well-known U.S. brands including a 9,000,000 share stake in Citigroup Inc (NYSE: C), a 30,000 share stake in Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), a 158,100 share stake in Coca Cola (NYSE: KO), a 1,333,000 share stake in Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), a 145,000 share stake in Johnson and Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), a 300,000 share stake in News Corp (Nasdaq: NWSA), among others.
