Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE) Plumment on Possible U.S. Bailout

July 11, 2008 9:00 AM EDT

Shares of GSE's Fannie Mae (NYSE: FNM) and Freddie Mac (NYSE: FRE) and down 49% and 42%, respectively, this morning as U.S. bailout talk is so loud it is deafening.

This morning, a number of major media players were reporting that senior Bush administration officials are considering a plan to have the government takeover one of both of the companies.

If this were to happen, there is a chance that equity holders could be wiped out.
