According to CNBC's David Faber, AIG (NYSE: AIG) is in discussions with the government for more funds as the company is expected to announce a $60 billion loss.

AIG is also exploring bankruptcy, but this is an unlikely outcome.

Talks with the government could focus on whether the company can swap some debt for equity.
