Whitworth's Relational Investors Boosts HP (HPQ) Stake By 80%

In an SEC filing after the close Wednesday, Ralph Whitworth's Relational Investors disclosed buying 13,148,735 shares of HP (NYSE: HPQ) stock from 05/25-05/30 at prices from $22.02-$22.71.

The latest purchases brings Relational's stake to 29,483,252 shares, or approximately 1.5% of the total shares outstanding.

Whitworth is an HP board member. The activist investor was added to the board in Nov. 2011.

HP recently announced another massive round of 27,000 layoffs as it tries to right the ship after year after year of underperformance and declining profits.
