Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) Confirms Burger Restaurant 'Tasty Made'

July 28, 2016 12:48 PM EDT

Following an earlier report, Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) confirmed that it will open a new burger restaurant called Tasty Made this fall in Lancaster, OH. Tasty Made will serve delicious burgers, fries and shakes with the same commitment to high quality ingredients for which Chipotle has become famous.

“Chipotle has been focused on a long-term vision to change the way people think about and eat fast food,” said Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle. “At the heart of that is our commitment to great quality ingredients and classic cooking techniques -- traits that are absolutely necessary to make the best tasting food, and that can be applied to number of kinds of cuisine.”

The Tasty Made menu is focused and features only burgers, fresh-cut French fries, and milkshakes. Like Chipotle restaurants, Tasty Made uses high quality ingredients that are grown and raised with respect for the animals, the land, and the farmers who produce them. Tasty Made will use Responsibly Raised® brand beef (from animals that are raised in more humane ways and without the use of antibiotics or added hormones), shakes made with real ingredients including milk, cream, sugar, eggs and other natural ingredients, and freshmade buns that are free of preservatives, dough conditioners and other artificial ingredients.

“Early fast food burger restaurants generally had focused menus,” said Ells. “We think there’s great strength in that original fast food model and wanted to create a restaurant built around that. Making only burgers, fries and shakes with really great ingredients, we think we can appeal to peoples’ timeless love of burgers, but in a way that is consistent with our long-term vision.”

To develop Tasty Made, Ells led a small team comprised of Chipotle staffers Nate Appleman and David Chrisman, who were dedicated to developing the burger concept. Appleman joined Chipotle in 2010 as culinary manager. He is a James Beard Award-winning chef, who cooked at San Francisco’s A16 and Pulino’s in New York, among other notable restaurants. Chrisman has worked at Chipotle for 17 years, most recently serving as the national training director where he oversaw all training functions and new restaurant openings.

“Nate and David have proven track records and diverse backgrounds, which make them ideally suited to develop and oversee this new restaurant,” said Ells. “Their talents include everything from developing menus to building incredible restaurant teams. Because both of them are native Ohioans, opening in the Columbus area makes this opening particularly special for both of them.”

The first Tasty Made is located at 732 N. Memorial Drive in Lancaster, OH.
