Shares of Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (Nasdaq: SWHC) are ripping higher in after-hours trading on Thursday, currently up 13 percent. The move comes as Smith & Wesson reported earnings that beat analyst estimates on the top and bottom line, with improved guidance.
Net sales for the fourth quarter hit a record $129.8 million, up 27.7% from the fourth quarter of last year, while year-over-year sales reached $412 million. This was also a record and represents an increase of 20.4 percent. The number also easily beat the consensus of $126.53 million.
Earnings per share were $0.27, $0.10 better than the analyst estimate of $0.17.
In 2012, Smith & Wesson made efforts to become a pure-lay firearm company, and so far those efforts are paying off. Top sellers at Smith & Wesson included M&P polymer pistols and our M&P modern sporting rifles.
Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. sees Q1 2013 EPS of $0.16-$0.19, versus the consensus of $0.12. They see Q1 2013 revenue of $125-$130 million, versus the consensus of $112.55 million.
For FY2013, the company sees EPS of $0.60-$0.65, versus the consensus of $0.50. Revenue for the year are expected at $485-$505 million, versus the consensus of $466.0 million.
