Unusual 11 Mid-Day Movers 6/12: MBI, TLB, DLA, CMED Higher; USS, CHDX, NCMI, BIOF Lower
U.S. Shipping Partners L.P. (NYSE: USS) 31% LOWER; just after 12 PM ET yesterday, the company announced that increased demand and utilization, as reported in its Q1 filing, may not continue in future months due to business conditions that remain challenging. The company also said that it is exploring strategic alternatives for itself, including a sale or sale of new equity.
Chindex International, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHDX) 27% LOWER; reports a Q4 loss of $0.20, versus the analyst estimate of $0.13. Revenues for the quarter were $34.6 million, versus the consensus of $30.53 million.
National CineMedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: NCMI) 25.2% LOWER; sees Q2 revenues between $83-$86 million vs. consensus of $90.98 million.
MBIA (NYSE: MBI) 21.7% HIGHER; after the close yesterday, MBIA issued a letter to its shareholders saying that recent rating downgrades by Moody's and S&P do not trigger any liquidity issues at the company. Ambac (NYSE: ABK) and Security Capital Assurance (NYSE: SCA) are also rising on rumors today: Ambac is up 13% and SCA is up 16%.
BioFuel Energy (Nasdaq: BIOF) 21% LOWER; Citi downgraded several ethanol stocks today: BioFuel and VeraSun (NYSE: VSE) went all the way from Buy to Sell while Archer-Daniels Midland (NYSE: ADM) went from Buy to Hold; As a result, the majority of the ethanol sector is getting beaten up today. Shares of Pacific Ethanol (Nasdaq: PEIX) are down 15% on the related downgrades.
The Talbots, Inc. (NYSE: TLB) 19.7% HIGHER; continues to trend higher today following yesterday's announcement that Aeon Co., Ltd., the majority shareholder of Talbots, has agreed to provide to the Company a $50 million unsecured subordinated working capital term loan credit facility to support its turnaround plan, maturing January 28, 2012. The CEO also reaffirmed its FY08 guidance.
Delta Apparel, Inc. (AMEX: DLA) 17.9% HIGHER; reaffirmed its Q4 guidance for sales of $88-$89 million, versus the consensus of $103.15 million and for EPS of $0.40-$0.46, versus $0.37. For the full year, Delta sees revenues in the range of $305-$315 million, versus the consensus of $325.88 million and a loss of $0.10-$0.16, versus the Street estimate of ($0.19).
China Medical Tech (Nasdaq: CMED) 17.4% HIGHER; reports Q4 earnings of $0.53 per share, above the consensus of $0.44. Revenues came in at $40.5 million, versus the consensus of $37 million. China Medical sees FY09 EPS of $2.87-$2.96, versus the consensus of $2.10. Sees FY09 revenues of $169.7-$175.4 million, versus the consensus of $167.15 million.
Shuffle Master (Nasdaq: SHFL) 16.9% HIGHER; shares have been on the move this week after the company reported strong results for its Q2 after the close on Monday. Today's move marks an even larger rise than on the day after earnings were released.
KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY) 16.7% LOWER; said it will record an after-tax accounting charge to earnings and capital in the second quarter of approximately $1.1 billion to $1.2 billion. KeyCorp also announced that it is in the process of raising approximately $1.5 billion of additional equity capital and will cut its dividend 50% to $0.75 on an annualized basis.
Casey's General Stores (Nasdaq: CASY) 16.5% HIGHER; reports Q4 EPS of $0.28, 3 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.25. Revenues for the quarter were $1.2 billion, versus the consensus of $1.19 billion. Raises its quarterly dividend to $0.075 per common share.
