Carson Block, founder of research firm Muddy Waters and notorious short-seller of Chinese Internet companies, may be looking to cash in even more on his recent predictions.

According to Reuters, Block had been playing with the idea to start a hedge fund "for a while." The idea is still a "maybe," Block noted.

Block has made calls on such companies as Sino-Forest, Focus Media (Nasdaq: FMCN), China MediaExpress, and others.

In addition to a hedge fund, Block is open to other ways of monetizing ideas, like through some sort of "Whistleblower Award." He noted that the firm now approaches regulators after publication to report more information than what the firm releases to the public.

Should Block start a fund, he'll take a place alongside another short on China's prospects: Kynikos Associates' Jim Chanos, whose fund now manages over $6 billion.
